Kampala, Uganda;
New Energy Nexus Uganda and its program, ENVenture are longlisted for a prestigious Ashden Award for Energy Access Innovation. Ashden, a UK charity, has been supporting transformative climate solutions for 20 years. More than 800 organizations applied for the 2021 Ashden Awards, and our program is one of just 38 to have made it to the longlisting stage.
Award winners will be announced this Autumn – after a rigorous assessment and judging process involving on-the-ground visits and input from sector experts.
New Energy Nexus Uganda/ENVenture mitigates energy poverty by creating sustainable clean energy enterprises in off grid lastmile of Uganda. Since 2016, we have run an incubation and acceleration program for Community Based Organizations (CBOs) to launch and run energy enterprises selling household clean energy technologies like improved cookstoves, solar, non-electric water filters and briquettes. Our model of inclusivity goes further to include CBOs with focus on women, youth, refugees, and people with disabilities. Currently we are working with over 120 CBOs and Village Savings and Loans Associations across the country.
Ashden’s CEO Harriet Lamb said:
